Indigenous adaptation to climate change in northern Australia

22:35 Oct 12 2012 Far North Queensland, QLD, Australia

Description
Funded by Australia's National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility, this project is investigating if and how Indigenous people in northern Australia adapt to extreme weather events (e.g. cyclones, floods, storm surges, heatwaves) and slow onset changes (e.g. sea level rise, drought and biodiversity loss). One output from this project will include a DVD that showcases how the Yalanji women in Far North Queensland are engaging and leading climate change awareness activities. The DVD will highlight how these activities are making their communities more resilient to disaster and helping them adapt to climate change while protecting development investments.
