Plan Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Disaster Risk Reduction week. The theme of week was: Women and Girls the (in)visible force of resilience. National celebrations were held on Friday 12th, in Mbale town, Eastern Uganda, a day earlier as the international day was falling on a weekend. The colorful event which attracted number of civil service organizations, UN agencies and members of the parliamentary committee on disaster management was presided over by the Minister of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon Dr. Stephen Mallinga. The Minister called upon the public to take Disaster Risk reduction messages seriously in order to be better prepared and overcome disasters. He said the Government had secured funds for the creation and strengthening of early warning and emergency centers. He also noted that a number of District Disaster Management Committees had been trained on disaster risk reduction management and more will be trained soon.
